Trending Holiday and New Year’s Makeup Looks

Whether you’re heading home for the Holidays, painting the town red with your friends for New Year’s Eve, or simply cozying up by the fire on a winter getaway, Maybelline is here to help with all your festive makeup needs. And we hope you’re ready for a cold front because we’re putting a new spin on “cool girl makeup.” Inspired by the winter frost, we’re serving up the coolest lip, face, and eye looks including Frozen Berry Lips, Icy Frost Makeup, and Blue Crush Eyes. Ready, set, glow!

Frozen Berry Lip

Nothing says winter quite like a bold lip. But, rather than just slapping on any berry-colored lipstick and calling it a day, we’ve updated the look for a fresher, trendier take. To copy the frozen berry lip trend, start with a liner like Lifter Liner in Let’s Bounce. To fake the appearance of a fuller pout, draw slightly outside of your lip line. Between that technique and the plumping hyaluronic acid in the liner’s formula, you’ll be ready to step under the mistletoe in no time.
Follow up your liner with a richly pigmented lipstick– SuperStay Vinyl Ink Liquid Lip Color in the shade Unrivaled is perfect for this– especially if you’re planning on doing a lot of sipping and smooching. Its color lock formula promises up to 16 hours of wear sans smudging or transferring, plus it imparts a stunning high-shine finish. Focus the application on the center of the lips for a pillowy effect. Now, to create the frosty feel of your Frozen Berry Lip, go in with Lifter Gloss in Taffy. It’ll help add some dimension and even more fullness thanks to another dose of hyaluronic acid and a brilliant sheen that catches the light.

Icy Frost Makeup

Start strong with an even base. Our Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation provides the perfect coverage, creating an oil-free canvas for an icy makeup look. Lightly coat your lids with Tattoo Studio Gel Pencil in Arctic Skies and then use your ring finger– it’s the weakest, so it won’t tug on the delicate eyelid skin– to buff it into a diffused wash of color rather than a bright, bold look. To turn this blue more frosty, go in with Color Tattoo Eye Stix in I am Shining– a beautiful champagne shade that sparkles–, starting at the inner corner and working your way to the middle of the lid on top of the blended blue.
To tie in some shimmer and shine on your face, dust a little Face Studio Master Holographic Prismatic Highlighter in Opal on the tops of your cheeks. We like to apply in backward “C” shapes to ensure you’re framing your eyes, drawing attention up, and lifting your cheekbones. On lips, a combo of lip liner and gloss will bring all your frosty dreams to life. Define your pout with a nude shade such as Lifter Liner in Out of Line and fill in your lips with a sheer, sparkling gloss like our Lifter Gloss in Ice. The result: a look that’s fit for an ice queen.

Blue Crush Eyes

Bored of wearing the same old neutral smokey eyes? We feel you. That’s why we created this leveled-up blue look for your eyes that will guarantee no matter what holiday party you’re attending, everyone will be looking at you! And spoiler alert: you can easily recreate this daring look no matter if you’re a makeup novice or a pro. To start, grab our Color Tattoo Eye Stix in Eye Am Extravagant and create a little inverted “v” on the corner of each eye. Start about midway on your lash line and draw outwards and up to your crease, stopping so the two lines are even. Create some depth by buffing out the color with an eye shadow brush.
Glide over your upper lash line with Master Precise All Day Liquid Liner in Cobalt Blue, drawing a thin line, then for a subtle wing look, trace outward and lift up, going over the pointed "C" shape that you made with the Color Tattoo Eye Stix. But, rather than bringing the liquid liner up into your crease, go back over your lash line, stopping midway on your lid. For a brighter pop of blue, go over your lash line and your water line with Tattoo Studio Gel Pencil in Galactic Cobalt. And while this will leave you with a striking blue eye look, we encourage you to push the envelope by coating lashes in a matching blue shade. For a dramatic and bold finish, apply two coats of Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara in Blue Mist to your top and bottom lashes.

FAQ

This winter, we’re seeing a lot of emphasis on singling out one facial feature and going all out with it. For instance, with the Frozen Berry Lip and Blue Crush Eyes makeup looks, it doesn’t feel like there’s too much going on. And there’s very much a theme to the looks rather than combining several trends at once, which can be overwhelming. A good example is how the eyes and cheeks are the focus of our Icy Frost Makeup and the neutral, yet shimmery lip ties everything together for an unexpected, yet cohesive look. While the holidays usually bring lots of red, green, and gold with them, we’re choosing to highlight unexpected shades, creating more of a metallic winter glam vibe that’s frosty and fresh. Definitely, these holiday and New Year’s Eve makeup looks are for everyone! No matter your coloring, you can easily copy any of these tutorials for the winter holidays. As you can see in our videos, we have a range of different models who all look amazing wearing these makeup trends. Plus, you could easily swap out colors should you feel like any of the recommended shades aren’t the most flattering on you, or are too far out of your comfort zone– that’s part of the fun of experimenting with makeup! While all of these trends would be beautiful for New Year’s Eve, we feel pretty partial to all the shimmer that’s involved in our Icy Frost Makeup look. But, you could always add highlighter to any of the other looks to dial up the shine.
